Codes Currently Adopted

The City Commission has adopted the following codes and associated local amendments.

The following codes are currently enforced by the City of Fargo Inspections Department:

  • International Building Code - 2006
  • International Residential Code - 2006
  • International Mechanical Code - 2006
  • International Fuel Gas Code - 2006
  • International Fire Code - 2006
  • North Dakota State Plumbing Code - 2000
  • National Electrical Code - 2005
  • Laws, Rules, and Wiring Standards of North Dakota - 2002
  • North Dakota State Code for Energy Conservation in New Building and Construction - 1992 (Adopted by the State)
  • International Property Maintenance Code - 2006
  • NFPA #31 - 2001
  • Fargo Sign Code
  • Portions of the Land Development Code
  • Fargo Municipal Code, specifically Articles FMC 13-09 (Junked vehicles), FMC 21-04 (Dangerous Buildings), FMC 21-06 (Flood Plain Administration), FMC 25-03 (Outdoor Advertising),  FMC 25-20 (House Moving) and any amendments to the above codes

Amendments made to customize the International Codes to local conditions and concerns are available at the Inspections office at City Hall or online at the Municipal Code at the link above. Please contact the Inspections Department to request them by mail or fax.
