Commissioner Williams called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM.
1. Approve minutes from August 6, 2008, regular meeting:
Mark Bittner motioned, Norm Scott seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
2. Discuss pedestrian crossing at the end of the Cul-de-Sacs on 66 St S
Don Hastings told the committee that he and his neighbors have called many times to the City about sidewalks, and were told many times that cul-de-sacs don’t get sidewalks. In neighborhood meetings, the residents decided that for their area, it’s a safety issue due to the width of the cul-de-sac entrance. Don stated that he has asked many people if given an option, would they go around the cul-de-sac sidewalk, or cross straight across the mouth, and every one of them said they would just cross straight across. Another option to increase safety would be to install a median across the mouth for a sidewalk to cross, that way pedestrians have a safer place to cross.
Mark Bittner asked Mr. Hastings why he was at TTAC, as the committee doesn’t normally deal with sidewalk issues. Don replied that his concern was the safety of people crossing the mouth of the cul-de-sac, as it is wider than a normal street crossing. Jim Hinderaker pointed out that while the cul-de-sac is wider than 66th St, the traffic volume in and out is far less than an equivalently wide arterial street, so it is a different safety issue. He also stated that the sidewalk petition had gone before the Planning Commission, and it was denied there.
Jeremy Gorden stated that with the Planning Committee recommendations going to the City Commission on October 6th, TTAC needs no further action at this time.
3. Other Business:
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:20 pm.
