Forestry Department

The Fargo Forestry Department manages a growing inventory of 45,000 trees found on city property.  Currently, ash varieties account for nearly 40% of all species, and elm accounts for an additional 20%.

Each year, we remove 300 to 500 trees around the city for health and diseases reasons. We also plant 500 to 2,500 trees across the city right of way.

We make sure the requirements for tree establishment in new developments is met and conduct tree maintenance in older parts of town.

Our mission is to promote and maintain a safe, healthy, and continuously progressive urban forest to benefit all residents.
