The City of Fargo celebrates Arbor Day annually. The official Arbor Day in North Dakota is the first Friday in May. Fargo routinely celebrates in mid-to-late May when the weather is a little warmer.
Typical Arbor Day activities include tree planting by local elementary students and volunteers. The locations for the celebrations vary and include school grounds, parks, city streets, bike trails and hiking areas.
The National Arbor Day Foundation presents the City of Fargo with its "Tree City U.S.A. Award" each year as part of the Arbor Day celebration. The city has met the "Tree City U.S.A." requirements since 1978.
