North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System (NDPERS)
City employees that are benefit eligible are required to participate in North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System (NDPERS) for retirement purposes. Benefit eligible employees are required to contribute 4% of their gross wages. The City of Fargo contributes 5.12%. Non benefit eligible employees are able to participate also but are required to contribute 9.12% of gross wages as the City of Fargo does not contribute on their behalf. An employee is vested in NDPERS after a minimum of three years of pension contributions. For further information, please go to www.nd.gov/ndpers.
This retirement plan does not apply to police or fire employees. They have their own pension plans with different contribution amounts.
