Building Inspections
The Inspections Department enforces codes adopted by the City of Fargo, including heating, cooling, electrical, plumbing and building, as well as some of the city's ordinances. We work with the Board of Appeals to ensure that these codes are fairly and reasonably interpreted and enforced.
Click below for Adobe Acrobat .pdf files of the current local amendments to those codes. The 2009 International Energy Conservation Code has been adopted, as well, by reference and there are no local amendments.
Do you need some information about a project you're planning for your home? See our Frequently Asked Questions page or download some handouts to check the code requirements.
Ready to move a house, garage, or shed larger than 120 square feet? Check the requirements on our house moving page.
Ready to submit plans for a commercial project? Download our permit application and verify how many copies and what kind of plans we require from our permit and code information page. If you've already submitted plans you can check the approval status online.
Can't find a street? Try the city's street locater.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the Inspections Department.
