Collection Development - Children's Services Collection Overview
14. Childrens Services Collection Overview
The Fargo Public Library Children's Services Department primarily serves Fargo residents from birth to grade six as well as their adult caregivers. The Department also serves teachers who work in Fargo schools, childcare providers, and homeschoolers as well as teachers who are Fargo residents but work in outside communities.
The Childrens Services collection should be balanced in accordance with the needs of each age level served and all materials selected for the collection will meet these age criteria.
Books are generally purchased in hardcover trade editions because it is less expensive than library binding and more popular with users. If the title proves to be a highly circulated item, the book may be replaced with a more expensive library-bound edition when it is discarded.
Worn copies of classic and/or award-winning titles may remain in the collection if the title has gone out of print.
