Order of Agenda
Helen Levitt moved to approve the order of the agenda, adding an amendment to the holiday closing calendar under continuing business. Jean Rayl seconded the motion; the motion carried.
Minutes
Helen Levitt moved to approve the minutes of December 16, 2003 as presented. Prakash Mathew seconded the motion; the motion carried.
Staff Report
Nancy Giere reported that Sergeant Joel Vettel of the Fargo Police Department talked about personal safety at the last Staff Development training session. The winter reading program is now in progress and doing well.
Continuing Business
A. Facilities Planning Process
Janice Feye-Stukas presented preliminary options to the long range facilities plan. She facilitated a discussion of other options that were not included in the preliminary report.
B. Amendment to Holiday Closing Calendar
Jean Rayl moved to add Thanksgiving and Easter Sunday to the holiday schedule of closings for 2004. Helen Levitt seconded the motion; the motion carried.
Directors Report
Charles Pace reported the Adopt-A-Print program has been embraced by the community. Far more organizations and persons are willing to sponsor a print than we have prints available. Work on conversion to the ALEPH system is continuing.
Fargo Public Library will offer a genealogy series in February. Job Service North Dakota and the Fargo Public Library are continuing to offer free computer classes each month.
Statistical Reports
More than 80,000 people used the Southpointe branch during 2003. Fargo Public Library now has almost 47,000 customers registered for library cards. Total electronic activity increased 20% from December 2002. Total circulation increased 17% for 2003. During 2003 more than 475,000 customers walked through the doors of our facilities and over 800,000 items were checked out. Kent Costin is working on the final accounting settlement with LSSI and will present a final report when complete.

There is no report at this time.
New Business
A. Approve photograph loan extension with NDSU
Helen Levitt moved to extend the photograph loan agreement with North Dakota State University for an additional five years. Jean Rayl seconded the motion; the motion carried.

The next board meeting will be held on Monday, February 23, 2004 at 4:30 p.m.
