June 26, 2008

Order of agenda
Helen Levitt moved to approve the order of agenda. Betty Kerns seconded the motion; the motion carried.
Review of brick mock-up panel
Michael Williams suggested that the decision for the colored brick mortar be done at the end of the meeting in order to move the meeting along.
Review of Change Orders
The following General Construction Changes Orders were approved for the new Main Library:
Change order G -1 for $938 to have dark brick (Brick 2) on the bottom of the building and covering the foundation below the dirt line.
Change order G-2 for $438 to have colored mortar to match the lower dark brick (Brick 2).
Change order G-5 for $5,211 for gas fireplace for fireplace room.
Change order G-6 for $3,565 for Lintel at Windows “W” and Window “WW” in the Children’s Room.
Change order G-7 for $1,009 for Threshold at Door 301 on the roof of the building.
Change order G-9 for Transformer/ Trash Enclosure Foundation
Change order G-10 to revise Door and Sidelights at Openings 103E and 103F.
Change order G-11 to deduct $6,189 as a louver credit from General Contract as this is already in the Mechanical Construction Contract.
The following Mechanical Construction Change Orders were approved for the new Main Library:
Change order M-1 for $876 for Custom Louver Color
Change order M-2 for $3,120 for Wellspring Rough-In (Mechanical Construction ONLY)
Helen Levitt made a motion to accept the following change orders: G-1, G-2, G-3, G-5, G-6, G-7, G-9, G-10, G-11 M-1, M-2, M-3 and M-4. Betty Kerns seconded the motion; motion carried.
The following General Construction Changes Orders were not approved for the new Main Library:
Change order G-4 for $2,861 for brick ledge.
Change order G-8 for $409 for Security System Revisions (General Construction Only).
Helen Levitt made a motion to deny approval of Change Order G-4 pending analysis and review of bid documents by Richard Moorhead, and to also deny approval of Change Order G-8 pending complete cost of security system. Betty Kerns seconded; motion carried.
Review of Wellspring Project Art Piece
Library Director Tim Dirks presented information to Library Building Committee members about the Wellspring Art Piece to be located in the lobby of the new Main Library. Based on suggestions and changes by Architects at MS&R, there are three new representations by the artist for the piece. According to Mr. Dirks, the Wellspring organization prefers the artist’s rendering showing people in the distance.
After the discussion of the Wellspring Art Piece, Michael Williams adjourned to view the sample of colored mortar at the Main Library construction site. Back at the Commission Chambers after seeing the mortar samples, Helen Levitt motioned to accept the General Construction Change Order for the colored mortar. Betty Kerns seconded; motion carried.
Change order G-3 for $6,669 to have colored mortar to match the light brick (Brick 1) on the building.
