The Vision Award

Each year, the Planning Commission honors a developer at the leading edge of practice with a Vision Award, which recognizes outstanding developments within the City of Fargo. The award was created to foster continuing excellence and stimulate innovation in the planning and development process.

In past years, the Planning Commission awarded developers based upon its discretion alone. For the 2008 Vision Award, a new method for nominations has been developed to allow the public to be more directly involved with the process. The judging process will include the following criteria:

  1. Originality
    • How the planning process and project utilized creative planning principles within the context of the City of Fargo
  2. Quality
    • How the planning, design, and completion of the project were implemented
  3. Impact
    • How the project reinforces what the area has to offer, while enhancing the neighborhood
    • Has the development been embraced by the public?
    • Will the development be a strong contribution to the community?
  4. Participation
    • Has the developer worked with the general public/government to improve the project?
  5. Initiative
Has the developer or project exceeded minimal development standards?
    • Did the developer initiate these concepts without the pressure of outside bodies?

The next step is now yours; it is time to nominate a project that you deem worthy of this award.  Eligible projects must have been completed by July 15, 2008 and must be located within the city limits of Fargo.

How to nominate:
There are three ways to nominate a project; e-mail, fax, or mail the downloadable entry form (PDF).  Send e-mail to: planning@cityoffargo.com, fax nominations to 701-241-1526, or mail the form to 200 3rd St. N., Fargo, ND, 58102. Please submit all applications by Oct. 31, 2008.
