The Fargo Police Citizens Academy exposes citizens to many of the challenges that face our officers. The goal of the class is to provide education and awareness about what the Fargo Police Department is, what we do, and how we accomplish our mission.

Classes are comprised of lecture and realistic hands-on training when possible.  Instruction will be in the following areas: 

  • Domestic violence investigation
 
  • Investigations 
  • Defensive tactics/use of force
  • Crime scene processing
  • Narcotics investigation 
  • Safe Rental Housing Program
  • Police training officer program
 
  • Driving under the influence 
  • Sex crimes/sexual offenders
 
  • Police bike patrol 
  • Firearms training
  • Police K-9 handling 
  • Red River Valley SWAT Team
  • Traffic stops
  • Gang investigation

HinkelcitizenacademyThe class is free for participants and usually consists of 15 to 20 citizens. It is held twice per year, usually in the spring and fall, from 7 to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays. Students have the opportunity to ride with a uniformed officer at a time that is convenient to the student. 

Instructors will be command officers, patrol officers and staff of the Fargo Police Department.
