Motorcycle Patrol

 Motorcycle-Officer

The Fargo Police Department's Motorcycle Patrol Unit uses three Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycles. The one sergeant and seven officers in this unit completed specialized training provided by Harley-Davidson. They focus on traffic violations and public relations.

Officers are often assigned to intersections known to have a high number of traffic accidents or red-light violations.

The Traffic Safety Unit wrote 4,968 citations for traffic violations in 2005. For speed enforcement, motorcycle officers use LIDAR, which is commonly referred to as laser radar.

These officers' public relations efforts include appearances at schools and in parades and other special events.
