Lead-based paint was widely used before 1978 but has since been proven to be a health hazard, particularly for small children. The following information can acquaint you with some of the issues related to lead-paint hazards and give local resources to deal with lead paint issues.

All HUD-assissted housing projects are required to comply with the guidance that has been provided on addressing lead paint-hazards in residential properties. These reference materials will help explain federal regulations regarding lead based paint.

Training and Guidelines for real estate/building professionals:

• Conducting a Visual Assessment - General Visual Assessment Training - specific to Sec 8 housing (important information for appraisers and realtors!!)  This is HUD's web-based training course on conducting visual assessments.  Organized as a "slide show", can print "completion certificate" after completing full course.
