Exemption for Blind Persons
A residential building owned and occupied by an individual who is blind is eligible for an exemption of up to $160,000 of the building value ($111,100 prior to 2009 tax year). If the property is owned by the spouse of a blind person or jointly owned with the blind person, the property is still eligible for the exemption if the blind individual resides in the house.
For the purposes of this exemption, a blind person is defined as one who has visual acuity of not more than 20/200 in the better eye with correction, or whose vision is limited in field so that the widest diameter subtends an angle no greater than 20 degrees.
This exemption extends to the entire building classified as residential as long as there are no more than two apartments or rental units in the building.
If you have any questions or are interested in applying for this exemption, call the City of Fargo Assessment Department at 701-241-1340.
